- David Edge, OMD
David is a Nevada State licensed Doctor of Oriental Medicine. He is also certified by the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. He holds an undergraduate degree in in Natural Science and a Master's degree in Traditional Oriental Medicine (T.O.M.) from Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (P.C.O.M) in San Diego, California.
David's interests in the healing arts began in 1995 when he discovered yoga while living in S. Lake Tahoe. Being an avid rock climber, he initially saw yoga as a way to improve his balance, flexibility and body awareness. Upon continued practice though, he began to realize the full spectrum of the effects that yoga can have on one's life.
In 1997 David moved to San Diego to begin studying massage therapy at Healing Hands School of massage. He started teaching yoga and began to take special interest in Shiatsu and deep tissue massage. The effectiveness of Shiatsu along with the theory of acupuncture meridians fascinated David. This interest led him to P.C.O.M. to peruse an in-depth study of this ancient healing art.
In 2000 he enrolled at P.C.O.M. The nearly four year curriculum included the study of acupuncture, herbal medicine, Tui Na (massage techniques), Qi gong, and Tai Chi. Also included in the curriculum was the study of Western medical science which included anatomy, physiology, neurology, nutrition and orthopedics.
The emphasis throughout the program was to use T.O.M. as the modality of choice while simultaneously maintaining and understanding the patient's condition through the eyes of Western medicine. David's goal is to use this integrative approach in order to provide the most comprehensive care possible.
During his studies at P.C.O.M. David had the opportunity to pursue externships with experienced practitioners. David spent many hours volunteering at the clinics, gaining valuable experience in sports medicine, herbal medicine, and pediatrics. While volunteering at Acusport with Matt Callison, David had the opportunity to work with several professional athletes. Matt combined his knowledge as an athletic trainer with the ancient techniques of T.O.M. to create a unique and incredibly effective approach to treating musculoskeletal injuries. David has integrated these methods into his own practice and considers this one of his specialties.
David practiced as a California State Licensed Acupuncturist in S. Lake Tahoe and Woodfords. He now resides in Gardnerville with his wife and three children. Besides his passion for Oriental Medicine, David enjoys rock climbing, snow sports, yoga, and studying the local medicinal plants.
